Prof. Dr. Ing. Gilbert M. Rios has an initial background in Chemical Engineering and Automatics. During his career at University, he held different positions in food and chemical engineering. At present he holds an emeritus position at the Ecole Nationale Supèrieure de Chimie and at the European Membrane Institute (IEM UMR 5635) in Montpellier (France).

He is an expert in the field of Membrane Technologies. Other of his activities are related with Supercritical Fluids and Fluidization. He is the author of more than 120 papers in International Journals or Congress Proceedings, and more than 100 oral or poster presentations in International Conferences. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (London), and a Member of other international scientific societies (European Membrane Society –EMS- , European Federation of Chemical Engineering –EFCE- …)

Gilbert M. Rios acted during 5 years as the coordinator of the European Network of Excellence on “Nanoscale-based membrane Technologies” (NanoMemPro - FP6 NMP). He is serving today as the Chief and Executive Officer (CEO) of the European Membrane House, the Durable Integrated Structure (DIS) created to continue the action of NanoMemPro (www.euromemhouse.com). Such as he was/is involved in a lot of EU projects related to membranes.

Gilbert M. Rios is also the director of SIMEV, a UNESCO chair on “Membranes for the Environment” (http://www.simev.org/). As such, he is working on practical questions concerning education and R&D for a better implementation of membrane technologies for developing countries, with a lot of applications concerning the water/health/energy nexus.
